Surviving Teething Hell: My Must-Have Essentials

Updated: Dec 14, 2024

Teething can feel like an a never-ending nightmare for both parents and babies. Believe me, I know, my baby took teething extremely personally. The discomfort from those little teethers can lead to irritability and sleepless nights. As a parent who has been through the struggles of teething hell, I’ve found a few things that made this challenging time more manageable. Here’s a rundown of the must-have items that helped me survive teething season, and I hope they will do the same for you!

I swear by these! They saved me so many times, there were days where my baby was inconsolable and I would hand her one of these and she would go through two or three of them in one setting. You can freeze breastmilk, fruit purees or anything your baby likes.

Another lifesaver during the teething process was this teething oil. This teething oil features a blend of botanical essential oils known for their soothing qualities, such as chamomile, sunflower, peppermint, and clove. This stuff worked better than any teething gel I tried. (and trust me, I tried alot of them)

I don't know why but my baby absolutely loved this thing. It is also BPA-Free which is a big plus.

I loved these because they are super easy for my baby to grab. Their texture is designed to target pressure points on the gums, they are perfect for when those dreaded molars start popping through. They are also BPA free.

I feel like a good teething mitt is essential to have on hand. They are great for babies who can't yet hold a teether. This one from Itzy Ritzy has so many adorable options to choose from. It's also BPA Free.

This one is super cute and easy for your little one to grab. I love that it can be taken apart and cleaned.

Washcloths (yes washcloths)

This one might seem weird but trust me, they saved me so many times. I would freeze them by wetting half of the washcloth so that baby girl would have something to hold without her little hands getting too cold. I recommend doing a few at a time, just wet them, tie the wet end in a knot, and stick them in the freezer and then pull one out for you little one to chew on when they need it. And if your baby is anything like mine, teething really affected her ears too, so I would run a washcloth under hot water and put it on her ears to help ease the pain (make sure you check to make sure it's not too hot though).

Trust me on this one, babies love them and they really do help. I would give her two every 15 minutes and would notice that she felt better after a few doses.

These are similar to the Camilia drops, I would give my baby 2 or 3 every 30 minutes or so. I noticed that sometimes they worked faster than the drops if I remembered to keep giving them to her.

Yes, I know it's expensive but it lasts forever, my baby is 16 months old and I still have half of the bottle because a little goes a long way. This can be used for everything from colds to teething. I would rub a little bit behind my baby's ears to help ease the ear pain that comes along with teething. It works!

When all else fails, Ibuprofen to the rescue. This isn't something I like to give my baby often but sometimes it is necessary for both mama and baby to get some much needed relief from teething. Or some much needed sleep.

Finding Your Path Through Teething

Teething may feel overwhelming at times, but with the right products, it can be a little less trying. These are products that I personally love but remember, each baby is unique, so you may need to explore a few options to find what works best for your child. Stay strong, mama! You've got this!
